Electro acupunture -EXPERT OPINION

Has anyone treated pelvic pain syndrome with electro acupuncture and was it successful ?

Frieda Mah Yes. Do your correct diagnosis first. It will success for many sicknesses. In Chinese medicine, pain is caused by blockage of energy and blood flow. However, in some cases, herbs and/or moxibution are needed.

Lene Greve yes, several times, and very successful, however I would be careful about using electrical acupuncture on the pelvis if the patient is still pregnant, and as Frieda Mah says, do a correct diagnosis first,, sometimes you don't even need electrical acupuncture
Timothy Suh Hi Tess-
First do you know if there is a western diagnosis? There are many reasons for pelvic pain. Second, what is the TCM diagosis? The possibilities are endless without proper information. However, I can tell you that the pain can be significantly help with TCM and even just electro-acupuncture. The pain can be from damp bi (ie. cysts, inflammation), could be heat bi (ie. inflammation due to infection, cystitis), stasis bi (ie. due to surgery and scarring, endometriosis), could be qi stagnation bi (ie. nerve damage), cold bi (ie. pain during period with cold lower abdomen). I think you can figure this out. Then you have to treat the root and then the branch by doing more local needling. Think sacral points and lower abdominal points.

Tess Stone Thank you for all the feed back.

Pelvic Pain Syndrome is the western diagnosis. The chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a common clinical syndrome characterized by lower genitourinary tract symptoms, particularly pain in the perineum or genitalia.

The patient is a 53 year old man with chronic pain due the inability to pass urine. Symptoms have improved with acupuncture but I was now thinking of using electro to move Qi ?
Stefan Chmelik Tess - exactly, CPPS/CP is the "Western diagnosis".

We have a special interest in this, and I would say that a multi modal approach is essential. Elements that could/should be included in every programme are:

Acupuncture - either myofacial, electro not necessary
Breathing retraining - absolutely essential in 80-90% of cases
Manual therapy - with someone that understands CPPS/CP
Exercises and self treatment
Stress reduction and Mindfulness practice
In some people, herbs, diet are necessary
